Counselor Message

Counselor's Message

Students face  many challenges today, like feeling stressed about schoolwork or having trouble getting along with others. They are in a constant state of physical, mental and emotional changes. These could include bullying, academic struggles, conflicts with friends and changes in mood. Our role is to guide students through these challenges with care and support.

We support students in different ways depending on their needs. At times, this means meeting them one-on-one for a session, understanding their concerns, and helping them recognise where the problem lies. Through focused interventions, we guide them in managing difficult situations and making sense of their emotions. Alongside this, we encourage students to discover their strengths and nurture their interests, so they feel more confident and ready to handle real-world challenges.

We also take Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions with students to help them understand their thoughts and emotions, become more self-aware, and develop empathy for others in their community and beyond. By building these qualities in the classroom, students learn to manage themselves better, build stronger relationships, and grow into responsible and caring citizens in the years ahead.

At its core, our role is to cultivate trusting relationships with students and parents both by having collaborative interactions. We encourage everyone to talk openly and honestly and we are available for parent meetings on PTM days or on scheduled dates.

When needed, we collaborate with the special educator to support the child holistically. The special educator works with children with special needs to strengthen both academic and developmental skills so they can access the mainstream curriculum more effectively. This may include individualised education plans(IEPs) and, where required, intensive one-on-one support. Depending on the child’s needs, the special educator may focus on reading, writing, mathematics, language and communication, motor coordination, and social skills. Support can also involve classroom strategies such as using visual aids, breaking tasks into smaller steps, or providing extra practice and reinforcement.

Together we work for the well being of students and to help them navigate through their challenges.
